A magical form of shielding ones mind. Learning occlumency takes years, and that's primarily why children start learning it at an early age, often as young as six.[1] It is classed in different levels. A master level three is considered safe against wandless Legilimency probes. Under occlumency your thoughts are clearer, your memory better, and your skills develop with the ease of the mythical naturally gifted. But that doesn't mean it is without its drawbacks.[2]

Drawbacks Edit

Occlumency allows great control over the day to day emotions — anger, jealousy, resentment, fear — all the things one doesn't like feeling — but the problem with that is that it does allow one to somewhat control them. Sometimes, paralysing fear is a good thing. Occlumency also brings an understanding of the world far beyond ones years, but that understanding can be both a blessing and a curse, for while one is able to make decisions with the clarity of an adult, it also makes ones mistakes all the more painfully obvious, once one has made them.

Synesthesia Edit

Magic sensing, a part of Occlumency, allows to feel magic as tastes.[3]

  • Raspberry: Detected dark magic[4]
  • Sweet scent: Detection wards in general
  • Orange: Harry's scent within in the Hogwarts wards.[5]
  • Slugs and snails and puppy-dog tails: Detected girls[6]

Mindscape Edit

When a person hadsadvanced Occlumency shields, mind scapes are being developed to help to throw any possible intruders. It also helps calm oneself down and block off certain emotions to focus on certain things better.[7] Mindscapes are also used to house the inner animal when having mandrake leaf in your mouth.

Radiating magic Edit

A combination of Occlumency and strong emotions. Also a strong core and high flamage arere needed.[8]
